Practically all diamonds contain naturally occurring internal
characteristics called inclusions.
Inclusions add a unique 'birthmark' to
a diamond - provided
by mother nature. When small, they may be considered a welcome identifier.
The size, nature and location of inclusions determine a diamond's
clarity grade and affect its value.
Inclusion Magnified
Clarity grading is conducted with specially designed microscopes
and observations are concluded when viewed with ten-power magnification.
FL = Flawless
- No inclusions observed
VVSI = very, very small
inclusion(s) - very difficult to discern
VSI = very small inclusion(s)
- difficult to discern
SI = small inclusions
- readily visible under ten-power magnification
